Through The Initiative And Leadership Of Tibets Supreme Spiritual Guide, The Tibet House Trust Was Inaugurated In September Of 1994. It Is An Official Tibetan Charity Program With The Main Purpose Of Rehabilitating Tibetan Refugees And Safeguarding The Identity And Culture Of The Nation.The Tibet House Trust Has Four Main Objectives, Which Includes Relieving And Alleviating Poverty In The Country, Especially People Of Tibetan Origin. They Also Intend To Provide Assistance In The Area Of Health And Education, Giving Top Priority To People Who Rightfully Deserve Their Aid. Another Thrust Of The Tibet House Trust Is To Help Sustain Relief And Rehabilitation Projects For Tibetans And Most Importantly To Preserve The Nations Identity And Culture.The Tibet House Trust Uses Different Channels In Providing Assistance, Which Is Mainly Through Monasteries, Hospitals, Schools And Cultural Education Programs. Since It Started Its Operations Six Years Ago, The Tibet House Trust Enjoyed A Certain Degree Of Success. The Trust Has Embarked On 40 Projects And Over 500,000 Has Been Raised To Finance The Said Projects.Among These Projects Is Endowing Educational Scholarships For Small Children. The Funds Are Routed Through The Department Of Education, Which Is Responsible For Monitoring The Educational Interests Of Children In Tibet. They Also Sponsor 15 Young Artists At The Tibetan Institute Of Performing Arts. This Is Mainly In Line With Their Efforts On Preserving The Rich Cultural Heritage Of Tibet.But The Most Important Project Of The Tibet House Trust Is Their Rehabilitation Programs For Refugees. There Are Alarmingly Continued Escalations In The Number Of Traumatized Refugees Who Have Crossed The Himalayas In Their Quest For Education And Religious Freedom. They Have Offered Assistance To 15 Political Prisoners Who Have Fled To Dharamsala After They Escaped From The Chinese Authorities. The Trust Also Combined Effort With The International Relief Funds In Giving Emergency Aid For The People In Eastern Tibet Who Experience The Brunt Of The February 1996 Earthquake And Snowstorm. The Calamity Left In Its Wake Unimaginable Devastation With Over 700,000 Animals Dead, Which Caused Starvation To About 100,000 Nomads In The Region. Needless To Say, The Tibet House Trust Has Presented A Ray Of Hope For Confused And Oppressed Tibetans. Through The Leadership And Guidance Of The Dalai Lama, The Trust Is A Very Important Factor In Truly Saving Tibet From Utter Misery And Sense Of Hopelessness. The Program Continues To Help People Who Are In Dire Need Of Assistance And Protection Today.
